DSN Nipples allow the spoke to insert through the head of the nipple, reducing stress risers, and increasing nipple strength and fatigue life.
Rather than a slot on the flat head of the nipple like standard external nipples, DSN nipples have a square drive tip on top of a spherical head, and thus require a special tool for wheel building and truing.
